RAMADAN THE HOLY MONTH
RAMADAN , the meaning of this name is , the calendar ninth
month of the Islamic calendar .
There are many beliefs on this month . Ramadan is also called as the month of mercy where ,Successor of the Prophet Muhammad in Ramadan was killed.
Another belief is the word
Ramadan came from the word “Ramadhaa” which means “Intense heat of the sun” and
it was named such because it burns the sins of
the believers with righteous deeds.
Muslims are involved in this month
with intense prayers,dawn to dusk fasting .
They fast the entire day beginning
from sunrise and end the day fast with a sip of water and dates at sunset.
During this period, they do the five daily prayers; zakat, or
almsgiving; and the hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca.
The five prayers
include Fazr where they read Quran in the morning at 5:00 A.M,then followed by
Zohar Prayer at midnoon 1:30 P.M, and in the evening there will be Asar at 5:00
P.M. Finally they end the day with Maghrib Prayer at 7:00 P.M and then they
have Iftar with all the family members and friends.
The month is also
a time of community; it is the custom for Muslims to invite their near and dear,
share their evening meal – iftar and recite special Tarawih
prayers in congregation.
Nowadays, the
community is not just Muslims , but all are being secular and all the religions
are happy to participate the iftar parties and show human relations are more
than anything else.
Ramadan month
lasts 29 – 30 days and ends depending on the visual sightings of the crescent
moon.
On the final day they see the Chaand or crescent mood and read Quran
/Khudba.
They are decked up in beautiful bright and vibrant colors and Men go to Mazjid, Women
busy preparing delicious and scrumptious Biryani, Sheet Khurma and so many
delicious and nutritious food. Women do prayers at home and wish each other as
“Id Mubark”.
The ultimate goal of Ramadan is to care, share and develop a closer
relationship with Allah.
